How many possibilities are in your next moment, next year?
One of the most common feelings that I sense and hear expressed from my clients and students is that of being trapped in their lives: trapped in their personality habits, jobs, relationships, mindsets, illnesses. These feelings often become more acute as we begin a new year. And, at anytime of the year, he can be hit with a sense that we have no exit out of this struggle, no way out of that problem. It sucks the life right out of us. One of the most tragic losses in adulthood is that of losing our imagination. A trapped mind has no options.
And this perception that we are stuck is not true.
Try this thought experiment: If you had absolutely nothing hindering you, how many different things could you conceivably do as the next move in your life? If you were free in this moment to do anything at all, what would you do? You could do a somersault, get a drink of water, clean a messy drawer, drive to the airport and get on a flight to Bismarck, give money to a charity, seek out those annoying neighbors and do the chicken dance on their steps. The possibilities are literally infinite.
Once upon a time there wasn’t a wheel, a car, a plane, a Starbucks, or an Internet. Someone had a unique thought and went for it. You don’t need to come up with the next Starbucks. Instead, easily and joyfully make more and more choices that are uniquely weird as only you are weird.
A mind that is playful and believes in miracles literally has no limit. Take this truth to the bank and write on your bathroom mirror: You have infinite possibilities in the next moment. This next year can be radically different and better than any year in your past. You can make up a new life starting now. I promise you that this new you will be a gift to the world that has never existed before and will never come again. Why am I so confident? Because the powerful gravity of miracles is behind you, and it is especially activated when you easily and joyfully play. So, what’s your next move?
