Using Lao-tzu’s Tao Te Ching as a Guide to an Awakened Spiritual Life
“How the Tao Te Ching speaks to our anxious, changing world”
A Zoom Conversation hosted by Scott McRae
Thursday, March 20th, 2025: 7:00 - 8:30 pm CST
This is a path of letting go, so there is room to live. - Tao Te Ching, Chapter 9
Our edginess, tension, anger, and turmoil begin to settle down. In their place, we find a deep tranquility that has been here waiting since before the beginning of beginning-less time. - Chapter 7
You are invited to be a part of a casual conversation about one of the most important topics of our day:
How do we live well in this highly anxious world?
Many of you who have been a part of my classes, groups, or spiritual guidance sessions have been introduced to brief chapters within the Tao Te Ching. Almost without fail, its words strike chords of deep resonance for us. It is timeless spiritual wisdom that speaks powerfully to challenges and stresses of our 2025 lives.
This Evening with the Author will be a structured and casual conversation with noteworthy author, William Martin, and with the ancient wisdom poetry of the Tao Te Ching.
William Martin has been a student and teacher of the Tao for more than four decades, and is published numerous books on the topic. He is a graduate at the University of California: Berkeley, and Western Theological Seminary. Prior to moving to his current home in southern Arizona with his spouse, Nancy, they ran the Still Point Center for the practice of Taoist/Zen meditation in Chico California.
Agenda for the Evening Conversation
We will meet over Zoom on Thursday, March 20th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm CST.
We will start with a brief time for centering and introductions
William Martin will share some background on how he came to his teaching and writing on the Tao. He’ll share reflections on how the ancient text speaks to our modern times, and he will share some of his favorite passages.
There will be time for participants to share comments and to ask questions of the author.
