The spiritual life can be so confusing. Fortunately, it can also be mapped.
I have two strong beliefs after many years of spiritual guidance work with people. The first is that most spiritual struggle is rooted in spiritual confusion.
Most of us encounter a dizzying amount of perspectives on what it means to be religious and/or spiritual. The complexity gums-up our spiritual life and it becomes sluggish.
The second belief is that the spiritual life can be simplified. It can be mapped. When we locate the landmarks on the spiritual journey, we can place ourselves along its life-giving pathway.
We can see when we have gone back to an old address, an old pattern that doesn’t work for us. We have clear directions on where to go to find a smoother road, where we go to have a more vital experience of spiritual living.
I am now orienting all of my work according to this, what I’m calling my Sacred Journeys map. My client work, my spiritual direction and Enneagram classes, all of it is filtered through what I have found to be predictable and clear spiritual landmarks.
What are these Sacred Journeys? The stops involve moving:
Out of the TRANCE
Into the BODY
Through the EGO
Down into the SOUL
Up into SPIRIT
In sync with the GIFT
Toward the GREAT BEYOND
I have two upcoming offerings that will be teaching and exploring this map and how to navigate it:
Growing through the Sacred Journeys, a Tuesday evening Zoom class offered through Wisdom Ways Spirituality Center: Sept 17, 24, & Oct 1, 2024
The Sacred Journeys Group, a Friday afternoon Zoom group that is a deep dive into the concepts, steps, and practices that create spiritual growth. It runs once a month for 7 months, starting Nov. 8.
The spiritual life doesn’t have to be a confusing tangle of stops and starts. It can be a graced, fluid, deep experience of being present to all of life in the here and now. I hope you can join me and others as we undertake these Sacred Journeys.
