Fun is Spiritual, really it is!
The most enlightened creatures among us all know this - the true sages, children, our pets. But the rest of us seem to forget. Or, we buy into the stereotype that spirituality is serious business.
A lot of our spirituality suffocates under the weight of seriousness. We try to “figure out” God or our struggles with spirituality. We judge who’s got religion and spirituality right and who’s wrong.
Our efforts to figure out our spirituality throw a wet blanket over the living fire that is the Holy Spirit.
If you find that your spirituality feels weary, old, troublesome, or missing, it’s time to breathe the fresh air of fun into your spiritual life!
Too often we forget: Anything that enlivens our lives is spiritual! So, fun is spiritual!
Dancing, doodling, a silly conversation, playing with a cat or dog or child or friend, happy music, a pedicure, a puzzle, a game, a glass of wine by the river, a cup of tea in the backyard, a roller-coaster ride, some yoga, a rom-com or mystery, a beach book, doing something you’ve never done before.
If it lights you up and delights you physically, emotionally or mentally, it IS spiritual.
Fun is like helium for the balloon of your spirit. Fun is like oil that loosens your rusty hinges and helps your spirit swing.
So, your homework is to seek out something fun and then feel the ways that these moments of amusement are the holy ground where Spirit is meeting and molding you.
