The Spiritual Journey and Spiritual Direction

In a world of maximum information and noise, how do we navigate the spiritual journey? There are so many faiths and perspectives, so many opinions and choices. How do we calibrate our internal compasses?

Here’s some of what’s on our compass at Sojourners Institute - a few things we know from decades of experience, including decades working with spiritual direction clients:

We are well-served by a multifaith spirituality that honors religious traditions and promotes spiritual freedom. We are well-served by relaxed and ever-changing practices that seek to awaken to the Divine in any moment. We are well-served by a simple kind of prayer - appreciation for our lives, for the people in our lives, and for our world. Our most profound spiritual work leads us to a natural simplicity and honesty, to our most real and relaxed selves.

This is the purpose of spiritual direction or guidance (terms we use interchangeably). The aim of spiritual guidance is to become more real, to live and love more freely. And the farther you go on the spiritual journey, the more you awaken to your highest and deepest potential as a human being. Spiritual direction shows you how to stretch the boundaries of possibility for your life, and, in doing so, unleash your peace, power, and healing in the world.

Sojourners is here to help you calibrate this compass, your own compass. Through spiritual direction, Enneagram coaching and classes, and training and resources for spiritual directors, we help you bring what matters into focus, so you can rise above the world’s noise and navigate with purpose. So what do you say - are you ready for us to join you on your journey?
