You may not realize it, but you let go 12,000 times a day. That’s a lot! And if you didn’t, you wouldn’t be alive. This is the simplest and yet most essential symbol of letting go: the exhale.
It’s estimated that the average person takes 24,000 breaths a day and half of them are of the out-breath, letting go variety. This basic biological fact of life is an important reminder for our spiritual lives.
Just as our body survives by balancing of the in-breath and out-breath, so too our spiritual lives require and thrive with that in/out balance. I think of the in-part as listening for and receiving sacred guidance, and the outward, letting-go-part as entrusting our lives, our loved ones, our daily concerns to the Divine.
Most of our clients come to us because some kind of imbalance is leading to life challenges. Helping them move toward greater spiritual balance can have a clarifying and healing impact on them.
The capacity to spiritually let go counters our ego’s tendency to try to control and overly manage the circumstances of life. This letting go essentially entrusts our lives to our higher, sacred power.
This letting go opens the gates of awareness to the graces and guidance that time and again anchor us in a better, more spiritual way of life.
If you’d like to dive deeper into this topic and the power it holds for our and our clients’ lives, I’m offering a book study coming up in 2025. We’ll be using David R. Hawkins excellent book, aptly titled, Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender. Sign up and learn more here: https://sojournersinstitute.com/letting-go-book-group
The book explores the process of releasing negative emotions and attachments in order to access peace and deepen our spiritual alignment. Hawkins presents a method of surrendering the grip of emotional blockages, including fear, anger, guilt, and shame.
This letting go exploration will be a great guide for us as we start off 2025, and I hope you’ll join us!
