Awakening to Our Natural Goodness and Peace

I am often reminding myself and my clients of this:

In a grace-filled and loving universe, there is a natural process of goodness, peace, and abundance that is always at work within us. So it isn’t our job to go out and create these experiences. It is our practice to awaken to them in this moment.

Client Janice is a quiet, wise woman who early in life married the wrong man. He told her in powerful ways that she was inadequate and a failure. A mental tape repeatedly played in her mind that she is a mess, and much of what she touches turns bad.

One day, I reflected to her, “I wonder what would happen to you if you caught a glimpse of how wise and kind you are with others?”

She quickly said, “That’s nothing special; that just how we are supposed to be with others.”

I responded, “Yes, that is how we are supposed to be, AND you are rare in your ability to bless others. Most people aren’t able to do that.”

Her brow furrowed. Then an embarrassed grin formed at the corner of her mouth.

We went on to talk about the natural process of goodness, peace, and abundance that is always at work within us, whether we know it or not. Janice, quietly gasped, “really!?” Then her grin began to quiver and tears started to fall. “It can’t be that simple…” she whispered.

I asked, “Are you sure of that?”

The next time we met, Janice told me that she was daily repeating the mantra, “goodness and peace are alive in me… goodness and peace are alive in me…”

Janice is finding herself waking up to a whole new way of thinking about herself. It seems too simple. Yet, simple it is, when we trust in the natural process of goodness, peace, and abundance that is always at work within us.
